Movie I’m waiting for: Scary Movie 4

scarymovie4a.jpgIt is true that movies can be great pieces of art, but oftentimes, art isn’t what you seek. In search of entertainment, I’ve discovered the posters AND the trailer for the upcoming Scary Movie 4. It is directed, once again, by David Zucker: even though the last Scary Movie (cleverly titled Scary Movie 3) wasn’t great, I’m always willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the person who gave us Airplane! And what do you know, Leslie Nielson is in Scary Movie 4 too!

Scary Movie franchise has always been about spoofing other films. Scary Movie (2000) spoofed movies such as “Scream”, “I know what you did last summer”, “The Matrix”, “The Blair Witch Project” and of course “The Sixth Sense”. For the sequel released in 2001 (talk about cashing in), it was “The Exorcist”, “House on the haunted hill”, “Dude where’s my car” and “Charlie’s Angels”. Scary Movie 3 (2003) makes fun of “Sign”, “The Matrix: Revolutions”, “8 mile” and “The Ring”.

scarymovie4b.jpgLatest entry to the series seems to spoof “War of the Worlds”, “Saw”, “The Grudge”, and “The Village”. What would be a spoof movie without making fun of iPod, Tom Cruise and George W. Bush… I’m actually glad to see that all those movies will get spoofed because I honestly believe they are not worth seeing. Their only redeemable value is to be made fun of. Now here’s some quick mini-reviews:

“War of the Worlds”: nice effects to look at, perhaps the worst ending of a sci-fi story (I do realize it’s staying truthful to the source material, but the ending is a let-down) – ending: microbes kill the aliens

“Saw”: disgusting piece of junk masquerading as entertainment – ending: one of them doesn’t survive

“The Grudge”: half-baked attempt to explain a ghost with a clear attempt at leaving the door open for sequels – ending: ghost doesn’t go away

“The Village”: the biggest pretentious shocker-ending, insulting movie watcher’s intelligence through conceited manipulation – ending: they’re not in the 18th Century
