2008 BMW 535xi vs 2007 Infiniti G35x – Size

BMW logoWhile browsing for a great import all-wheel drive sedan, I came across the newly (slightly) redesigned BMW 535xi, and what struck me was how similar that car was to what I already have – 2007 Infiniti G35x. Of course this comparison isn’t apple-to-apple as 535xi competes against Infiniti M35x, but this is a better test to see how much the new offerings from Infiniti and BMW fare against each other.

First issue to be tackled is the size. When you think about G35, you figure it’s a direct competitor with Audi A4, BMW 3-series, Lexus IS and Mercedes-Benz C-class and you rarely compare against bigger cars that M35 competes against.

Surprisingly, the 535xi isn’t that much bigger than the G35x, with differences of few inches. However all those inches add up as the weight is 242 lb heavier.

    Size does matter!

the 535xi does not have a 3.5L engine, actually. BMW badges its engines strangely- the previous 525, 530, current 528, 535 all have the same 3.0L inline six in different states of tune. counter-intuitive, but it’s all about product placement.

thank you, eli f. I edited the post to remove the mention of non-existent BMW 3.5L engine :)
