Samsung’s latest refrigerator (model RH269LB/SH) is a 26.1 cu. ft. side-by-side refrigerator with an added bonus: a 10.4″ inch color TFT screen. But it does better than similar offerings from previous Samsung models and current LG models by making the screen a touchscreen, and then making it wireless and detachable from the refrigerator! A TV on your refrigerator may be convenient, but a detachable wireless TV is even better. Apart from the TV capabilities, the refrigerator also sports a FM tuner as well as basic memo, calendar and food management software running on Microsoft Windows CE .net 4.2. According to the Korean Samsung Electronics website for a similar but not equivalent model (SRN768MYP), here’s what those softwares do:
Food management
- List of contents in your refrigerator
- Keep track of expiration dates of your foods
- Keep track of food purchase date
Calendar
- Keep track of important dates such as birthdays, anniversaries
- Notifications of important dates
- Daily / Monthly / Yearly calendar views
 Family messaging
-
Compose text messages
-
Record voice messages
-
Write memos and notes
In all, this looks like a perfect refrigerator high-tech innovation to hit the kitchen since, well, refrigerator with built-in TVs. Making it detachable makes the refrigerator more useful by allowing you to watch TV and listen to radio up to 200 ft away from the refrigerator… availability and price still unknown but I expect this will cost slightly more than current TV without detachable LCD TV (the LG model with built-in non-touchscreen 15″ LCD TV goes for $3499.99 at BestBuy)
