    HP Blackbird 002 gaming computer

    Computer, Gaming No Comments »

Gaming industry shows no sign of slowing down: even though PC gaming isn’t as glamorous as console gaming, there still is a big market out there. HP is unveiling its brand new Blackbird 002 gaming computer (what happened to 001?) featuring liquid cooling across all trims. To be priced between $2,500 and $7,500 depending on configuration, the computer is definitely a stunner in terms of visuals and price tag… what remains to be seen is what kind of components will be available.

    OverlordStrongly recommended: Overlord (PC, X360)
This game will allow you to be an all-powerful evil lord who gets resurrected after being killed by a band of heroes. Now you must use everything in your power to bring terror to the world and kill those heroes by controlling your minions. Early word is Xbox 360 version controls better than the PC one.

    Recommended: The Darkness (PS3, X360)
First-person shooter that allows you to use your evil powers by spawning minions to attack enemies, or even generating black holes to suck everything.

Must avoid: Driver - Parallel Lines (PC, Wii)
Driver franchise hasn’t delivered any hits since, well, the first Driver. Just keep playing your GTA instead of investing in this knock-off.

Other games being released this week:

    • Final Fantasy Anniversary Edition (PSP)
    • Grim Grimoire (PS2)
    • Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (DS, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii, X360)

Rise of the Silver SurferBig Brain Academy: Wii Degree (Wii)
The Big Brain Academy series finally comes to Nintendo’s uber-popular console promising to make your brain larger and heavier. It remains to see how intuitive Wii’s motion controls will be utilized.

Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer (every platform except PSP)
Summer means big movies and movie tie-ins. F4:RotSS promises to be a better brawler with 4-player support on one console.

    Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 2 (PS2)

Scarface: The World is Yours (Wii)
Parade of the colons continue with the port of Scarface to the Wii with motion controls.

    Tenchu Z (X360)
Stealth ninja series Tenchu comes to Xbox 360 with mediocre previews.

Best & Worst Games (June 2007 edition)

    Gaming No Comments »

May 2007 meant very few changes to the list… only 3 new games. Unfortunately they are at the bottom of the barrel which means this past month, there were no outstanding games released. We’ll have to see how the summer fares for the next-gen consoles.

    Best of PS3

    1. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
    2. Resistance: Fall of Man
    3. Virtua Fighter 5
    4. MotorStorm
    5. Fight Night Round 3

    Worst of PS3

    1. Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire
    2. Sonic the Hedgehog
    3. Genji: Days of the Blade
    4. Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom
    5. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End: it looks like not even Captain Jack Sparrow could save this movie tie-in

    Best of Xbox 360

    1. Gears of War
    2. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
    3. Guitar Hero II
    4. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
    5. Call of Duty 2

    Worst of Xbox 360

    1. Bomberman: Act Zero
    2. Pimp My Ride
    3. Sonic The Hedgehog
    4. Eragon
    5. Fuzion Frenzy 2

    Best of Wii

    1. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
    2. Super Paper Mario
    3. WarioWare: Smooth Moves
    4. Madden NFL 07
    5. Trauma Center: Second Opinion

    Worst of Wii

    1. Legend of the Dragon: this fighting game based on an anime completely fails as it is the worst game on Nintendo Wii
    2. Far Cry Vengeance
    3. Rapala Tournament Fishing!
    4. GT Pro Series
    5. Rampage: Total Destruction: monsters destroying buildings and eating humans ends up being tedious… no wonder this game is one of the worst Wii titles.

Xbox 360 Racing Wheel for $99

    Xbox 360 Racing Wheel

Last time I tried the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel, I was put off by the lack of supporting games, requirement of setting up a table to best control it, inability to use it on a PC and somewhat high price. Microsoft dropped the price to $129 USD but it looks like it’s even cheaper in Canada. Both Best Buy and Future Shop are selling the racing wheel + PGR3 for just $99 CAD!

This is certainly a great bargain if you like your racing games to be more than just pushing buttons on the controller…
