Wine: Château de la Gardine review

    Wine No Comments »

Château de la GardineA great wine is hard to come by, and to me, a great red wine is even harder to come by… That’s why Château de la Gardine from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region (Rhône) in France was a welcome pleasant surprise.

If you’re swayed by the wine scores, The Wine Advocate scored the 2003 bottle a 91, and Wine Spectator scored it 93 which is pretty outstanding. Surprisingly so, the wine isn’t overpowering and its blend of dark cherries and smokiness gives it a rich full-bodied bouquet. Taste is perfect for both delicate fish as well as steak rendering it a versatile wine fit for your private wine cellars. The 2000 vintage is considered the best so far, so if you manage to find it, make sure to savour it!

In Quebec, you can purchase it from SAQ for $34.50Â (2004 vintage).
In Ontario, neither LCBO nor Wine Rack carry this wine… I hope this omission will be fixed soon!
