How do you sell your console to the public when it is the most expensive offering? Of course, talk about what a great deal it is! Sony has sent out earlier this week a chart helpfully detailing what PS3 has that the competition doesn’t.
Of course they will put out a chart showing their console claiming superiority over the alternative, I am unsure what the benefit of Blu-ray gaming is when the alternative DVD format is doing just fine. Xbox 360 has seen only a few games that required multiple DVDs, and the Final Fantasy XIII argument (our game is too big for DVDs) was squashed recently as they somehow realized DVDs are just fine for the latest and greatest high-def showcase. Xbox 360 and Wii comes bundled with games, and even though PS3 touts HDMI output in the “out of the box console” price of $399, it doesn’t include that aforementioned HDMI cable. So how is that out of box price?
In the end, the chart doesn’t matter. Regular consumers who aren’t savvy about games will look at the price tag of $199 Xbox 360 Arcade vs. $399 PS3 80GB and will opt for the cheaper one. $200 difference is not easily ignored (as you can add $50 and get a Wii as well, and we all know everybody wants a Wii).
