Justice Michael Bastarache announced his retirement from the Supreme Court of Canada, almost 15 years before he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 75. He has not given a reason for his retirement, but it is rumored to be his health.
His replacement is set to be chosen in the Atlantic Provinces, potentially before the court resumes in October.
